What is a Poet?

Writer's picture: Stephen McCallumStephen McCallum

I see a thing within my mind,

A love or pain, of any kind.

I search for words with which to say,

The emotions that my heart displays.

There's something distressing that I find,

All my emotions are in my mind.

I see a thing and write some lines,

But the emotions are lost or undefined.

I must admit, although it's sad to say,

My head is an empty place to play.

In my mind are lifetimes full of thought,

But to feel one life is an eternal naught.

I can accept to see life with my mind,

But all the emotions I still must find.

I must seal the soul that's been torn apart,

For what is a poet, without a heart?
